Disconnect Electrical Wires

What happens in this clip

With the old fixture base removed, you will see the electrical wires coming out of the wall's electrical box. Carefully untwist the orange wire nuts (or whatever color they are) that connect the old fixture's wires to the house's electrical wires. The presenter identifies three sets of connections: black to black, white to white, and a ground wire (bronze/copper). Observe and remember how they were connected, as you will connect the new fixture similarly.

Goal: Safely disconnect the old light fixture's electrical wires from the main electrical supply.

Step 6 of 13: Disconnect Wiring

Observe how the existing fixture is wired. Typically, there will be three sets of wires: one from the ceiling to the fixture (hot), one from the ceiling to the fixture (neutral), and one from the ceiling to the fixture (ground). Usually, these are connected with wire nuts. Unscrew the wire nuts counter-clockwise to separate the wires. If wires are directly connected, you may need to loosen terminal screws.
