Select a hammer drill equipped with a carbide-tipped masonry drill bit of the correct diameter as specified by the wedge anchor manufacturer (e.g., 1/4 inch for 1/4 inch anchors). It's crucial to use a hammer drill, not a standard drill, as its percussive action is necessary to effectively penetrate hard concrete without prematurely dulling or melting the drill bit. Drill the holes to the specified depth, which should be slightly deeper (typically 1/4 inch deeper) than the anchor's embedment depth. Avoid continuously drilling for too long to prevent overheating the bit; drill for a few seconds, let the bit cool, and then continue. It's recommended to drill about four holes, then switch to a fresh bit to allow others to cool.
