With your marks ready, use a drill with an appropriate drill bit (matching the size of your wall anchors) to create pilot holes at each marked location. After drilling all the pilot holes, take a wall clip (the type that comes with the shelf kit, which usually includes a small nail or pin). Insert the plastic clip fully into each pilot hole. Once the clip is seated, take the small nail/pin and tap it gently into the center of the plastic clip with a hammer. This action expands the back of the clip, firmly anchoring it within the drywall. The presenter notes that for extra strength, especially if the shelf will hold heavy items, you can use toggle bolts (e.g., Everbilt toggle bolts) as an alternative or in addition to the standard clips.
