Empty the entire contents of the under-stair closet. This includes any stored items, shelves, or old fixtures. Ensure the space is completely clear.

Add personal touches such as throw pillows, blankets, artwork, plants, or a small rug to enhance the cozy atmosphere. Arrange books on the shelves.
