Secure Stringers to Foundation & Top Support

What happens in this clip

After the concrete footings have cured and the first stringer is in place, position the remaining stringers. Trace the first stringer onto new lumber boards and cut them (if not already done). Place the stringers onto the metal brackets in the concrete footings and against the upper structure. Secure the bottom of each stringer to its respective metal bracket using bolts, and fasten the top of each stringer to the deck framing with screws. For longer staircases, consider adding an intermediate support post, set in rapid-set concrete, beneath the middle of the stringers to prevent sagging.

Step 4 of 8: Secure Stringers to Ground

Position the bottom of the stringers onto the prepared ground area, aligning them with the marks made in Step 2. Ensure the stringers are plumb and securely fastened to a stable base. This can be achieved by using concrete footings, metal stringer connectors anchored to concrete, or by burying the stringers slightly if local codes permit and the ground is stable.
