Measure Cabinet Interior

What happens in this clip

Accurate measurements of the cabinet interior are crucial. Measure the overall cabinet width, height, and depth inside. Additionally, identify and measure any projections, such as hinges, door components, or face frames, that might encroach into the cabinet's usable width. These projection measurements will determine the thickness of the necessary spacer strips for slide mounting.

About the full video

This project guides through the process of installing pull-out shelves with drawer slides in custom cabinets to enhance storage efficiency and ergonomics. It covers measuring the cabinet, designing the pull-outs, calculating dimensions, preparing a cut list, cutting and edge banding the melamine pieces, assembling the pull-out boxes, installing full-extension drawer slides, and finally, installing the completed pull-outs into existing kitchen cabinets using spacer strips for a precise fit.

Step 1 of 7: Measure Under-Stair Space

Using a tape measure, record the height, width, and depth of the entire under-stair area. Pay close attention to any angled walls or obstructions that will affect the placement and size of the storage units. Measure at multiple points to account for any irregularities. These measurements are critical for creating a design that maximizes the usable space.

Under Stair Storage

This project involves designing and building custom drawers or pull-out carts to maximize storage space within the often-underutilized area beneath a staircase. The process includes measuring the space, designing the storage units, selecting appropriate materials, cutting and assembling the components, and installing them into the stair cavity.
