Starting from the bottom of the slope, excavate the ground using a shovel to create a level base for the first assembled step frame. Place the frame into the excavated area, ensuring it is perfectly level both front-to-back and side-to-side using a spirit level. Secure the frame by backfilling with excavated soil and compacting it firmly around the outside. Repeat this process for each subsequent step, working your way up the slope. Each step frame should be slightly set back from the one below it to create a comfortable tread depth. Continually check levelness and alignment as you progress.
Goal: Install step frames securely up the slope
This project guides you through building a set of durable outdoor steps using treated timber and gravel. It involves site preparation, cutting and assembling wooden frames for each step, carefully excavating and installing these frames along a sloped path, and finally filling them with decorative gravel to create a stable and aesthetically pleasing stairway.
Using the layout marks, repeat steps 2 through 6 for each subsequent step. Ensure each new step's excavation starts at the back of the previous step's tread, creating a continuous series of steps.
This project involves constructing timber and gravel steps on a slope to improve accessibility and aesthetics. The process includes planning the layout, excavating the area, building retaining walls for each step using timber, and filling the steps with compacted gravel for a durable and functional surface.
