Secure the Skirting Board

What happens in this clip

Once a perfect fit is achieved, apply construction adhesive in a continuous bead along the back of the skirting board. Then, position the board firmly against the wall and use a nail gun to pin it securely in place. Ensure the nails are driven flush or slightly recessed so they can be easily filled later.

This project demonstrates the scribing method for fitting skirting board on an internal corner. This technique is preferred over simple 45-degree miter cuts, as it creates a seamless joint even when walls are not perfectly square. The process involves an initial miter cut, followed by detailed hand-cutting of the profile using a hand saw and coping saw, and finally securing and finishing the board.

Step 6 of 10: Install New Skirt Boards

Apply a bead of construction adhesive to the back of the skirt board where it will contact the wall studs. Position the skirt board against the wall, ensuring it is flush and aligned correctly. Secure the board by driving finish nails through it into the wall studs at regular intervals (e.g., every 12-16 inches). Use a nail gun or a hammer and finishing nails. Ensure nails are driven slightly below the surface for later filling.
