What happens in this clip

For the best final result and a durable finish, it is highly recommended to apply an undercoat or primer. Pour the undercoat into a paint tray. Use an Ultimate WG 18mm Angled Brush, which is designed for precise cutting in and reaching intricate areas. Dip the brush into the undercoat, wiping off excess. Paint gently in long, even strokes along the wood grain of the skirting board, ensuring full coverage.

Goal: Apply an undercoat or primer to create a solid base for the topcoat.

About the full video

This project provides a step-by-step guide on how to properly prepare and paint a skirting board. It covers two preparation techniques: light sanding for regular surfaces and paint stripping for thick, old paint layers, emphasizing safety precautions. The process concludes with applying an undercoat or primer, followed by a topcoat to achieve a smooth and professional finish.

Step 10 of 10: Prime and Paint

Apply a coat of high-quality primer to all new trim and skirt boards. Allow the primer to dry completely. Lightly sand any areas that feel rough after priming. Apply your chosen paint color in thin, even coats. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next. Typically, two coats of paint are sufficient for good coverage.
