To correct the unlevelness, insert one or more small, thin pieces of wood, known as shims, underneath the low sections of the board. Gently tap the shims into place until the board appears to be visually closer to level. The thickness and number of shims will depend on how much the board needs to be raised.
Goal: Raise the low sections of the wooden frame using shims
This project demonstrates how to level a wooden frame, such as for a deck or a raised garden bed, using a spirit level and small wooden shims. The video focuses on correcting an unlevel rim board by inserting shims underneath until the board is perfectly horizontal.
Cut thin strips of wood (shims) to fit snugly into any gaps identified. Apply a small amount of wood glue to the shim and tap it gently into the gap with a hammer until it's secure. Trim any excess shim material flush with the surface.
This project addresses the common issue of squeaky stairs by identifying the source of the noise and applying targeted fixes to eliminate it. The process involves a systematic approach to diagnose the cause, which can range from loose treads or risers to friction between wood components, and then implementing appropriate solutions such as tightening fasteners, shimming gaps, or applying lubricants.
