What happens in this clip

Once the joist location is confirmed with a test hole, use an impact driver to insert the 3-inch trim head screw. Drive the screw down until its head is approximately 1/4 inch below the surface of the hardwood floor. Test the area for squeaking. If a squeak persists, you may need to drive another screw slightly to the left or right of the initial screw, trying to find the optimal point within the joist to secure the flooring more effectively.
