What happens in this clip

This is the core decorative step of the project. The video shows a close-up of a hand carefully smoothing a black and white starburst patterned decal onto a white stair riser. The material used appears to be a peel-and-stick type, closely resembling decorative tile or removable wallpaper. This process is systematically repeated for each riser of the staircase, transforming their appearance from plain white to a stylish, patterned design. Achieving a professional look requires precision in measuring, cutting, and smoothing the material for a seamless, tiled effect.

Goal: Decorate the stair risers with a new pattern

About the full video

This project provides a step-by-step guide on how to transform a plain wooden staircase by applying patterned vinyl decals or peel-and-stick wallpaper to the risers, then re-installing carpet runners on the treads. The process enhances the aesthetic appeal of the staircase, giving it a refreshed and stylish look. It involves initial preparation, careful application of decorative material, and final re-installation of runners.

Step 3 of 6: Apply Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper

Peel back a small portion of the backing paper from the top of the cut wallpaper piece. Align the top edge of the wallpaper with the top of the stair riser, ensuring it is straight. Slowly peel away the backing paper while pressing the wallpaper onto the riser, smoothing out any air bubbles with a squeegee or your hands as you go. Trim any excess material at the edges with the utility knife.
