What happens in this clip
Once the stain is completely dry, prepare to apply the topcoat. The video recommends Minwax Polycrylic Crystal Clear Topcoat in a satin finish. Before application, it's extremely important to thoroughly stir the polycrylic, as it contains a flattening agent that settles at the bottom, and improper mixing will prevent you from achieving the desired satin finish. Use a high-quality brush, such as a Wooster Gold Edge 2.5" Firm brush, to apply the topcoat. For interior decorative products, one coat may suffice, but for furniture or items requiring more durability, apply multiple coats. The polycrylic dries quickly, typically within a couple of hours to the touch. After the topcoat has fully dried, gently rub the surface with a crumpled paper bag. This step helps to smooth out any lingering texture and provides an even smoother finish.
