What happens in this clip
Before starting construction, accurately measure the space where the baby gate will be installed. First, measure the width of the opening, specifically from the banister to the baseboard molding, ensuring to account for the baseboards so the gate isn't too wide. Next, measure the height. The creator recommends a height of 25 inches, noting that taller gates might be needed for very tall operators or large pets.

Step 1 of 6: Measure Banister Gaps
Using a tape measure, carefully measure the width of each gap between the vertical spindles of your banister, as well as any gaps between the spindles and the top handrail. Record these measurements to identify the largest gap, which will dictate the size of the material you'll need to purchase to ensure no child can fit through. Also, measure the total length of the banister that needs to be covered.
