The presenter begins by explaining that to order the perfect size carpet stair tread, two primary measurements are required: the width and the depth of the stair tread.
Goal: The first step is to identify the two essential measurements needed for ordering stair carpet treads: width and depth.
This video provides detailed instructions on how to accurately measure stair treads for custom carpet installations. It covers measuring both the width and depth of each tread, offering guidance on how to adjust these measurements to achieve the desired aesthetic of exposed wood. A helpful tip for visualizing the final fit using painter's tape is also included to ensure satisfaction before ordering.
Hi everyone, it's Amy from Oak Valley Designs. I'm going to talk to you about measuring your stairs so that you can order the perfect size for your carpet stair tread. Okay, you need two measurements. You need a width and you need a depth. Let's start with a width.
Automatically transcribed from the source video.
Next, let's capture the width of each tread. Run your tape measure across the front edge, making sure it’s perfectly parallel to where the tread meets the back riser. This ensures a true, straight measurement. Is your staircase embraced by walls on both sides? Then you'll measure from wall to wall. If one side is open, measure from the outer edge of the tread to the wall, or from edge to edge if both sides are open. For that classic, refined, and design-conscious look, we typically recommend leaving about a 1-inch space on each side of your carpet tread. So, for instance, a 36-inch wide stair would beautifully frame a 34-inch wide tread. This small detail makes a big difference in achieving a professional finish.
Achieving a beautiful, safe, and custom-fit staircase with Oak Valley Designs starts with precise measurements. This DIY-friendly guide will walk you through each step, ensuring your new carpet stair treads fit perfectly, enhancing both the safety and style of your home. We'll show you how to measure each individual step, accounting for common variations and different staircase styles, so you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a professional-looking installation. Remember, while standard dimensions exist, your unique measurements are paramount to a truly custom look and feel, elevating your staircase with comfort and care.
