Step 2 · Measure Each Tread's Depth
For each step, place the end of your tape measure firmly against the vertical riser at the back. Extend the tape straight across the tread, going over the rounded front edge, which is called the 'nosing.' To get a true, accurate measurement, it’s crucial to keep your tape measure flat and level. Don’t let it sag! Write down the depth for each individual step. Taking the time to measure each one ensures you get that perfect, custom-made to fit result.
Don't measure over existing carpet, vinyl, or adhesive; it throws off your depth.
